Kenneth Hall

Kenneth Hall appeared as prospective juror 174 during Day 2 jury selection. The court questioned him about his ability to serve, and counsel examined his reactions to publicity, possible verdicts, punishment, mitigation, and the individual judgment required of a juror.

Hall said he had initially felt anger when he heard of the children's deaths, but said he could set that aside and hear the facts instead of relying on media reports. The court did not allow a proposed question centered on not guilty by reason of insanity, instead permitting a question about whether Hall regarded any of the four verdict forms as unavailable.

The defense sought to remove Hall for cause, arguing that his responses showed an automatic preference for death after a murder conviction and an improper requirement that the defense prove remorse. The State responded that Hall wanted to hear both sides and all of the facts, including aggravating and mitigating circumstances. The court denied the challenge, found Hall qualified as a potential juror, and instructed him not to discuss, research, or follow news about the case.
