Todd Schelling, Tim Jones's former Intel team lead, testified for the defense on Day 20 about Jones's workplace functioning and changes he observed in 2014. Schelling recalled one more-aggressive workplace interaction, along with agitation and sweating during the summer of 2014. He said Jones generally interacted appropriately with coworkers and showed no violence. Schelling also said he did not recall wild mood swings, did not suspect drug use, and had not heard reports of voices or family mental illness.

On cross-examination, Schelling placed the observed changes in roughly the last three months before Jones stopped reporting to work and said he had not observed mental instability or had personal concerns about Jones's mental status. Redirect narrowed his recalled symptoms to agitation and sweating. On recross, he said Jones had not reported hallucinations to him and that he had not seen Jones talking to no one or swatting at invisible things.
