COURT CLERK: Once you're seated, state your full name, spelling your last, please.
VICKIE ROBERTS: Vickie Roberts. V-I-C-K-I-E, R-O-B-E-R-T-S.
DIRECT EXAMINATION By Mr. Graham:
SHAWN GRAHAM: Ms. Roberts, where are you employed, ma'am?
VICKIE ROBERTS: The Federal Bureau of Investigation in Jackson, Mississippi.
SHAWN GRAHAM: And how long have you been with the FBI?
VICKIE ROBERTS: Nineteen and a half years.
SHAWN GRAHAM: And were you back in 2014, are you still a forensic examiner?
VICKIE ROBERTS: Yes, sir.
SHAWN GRAHAM: Briefly, what is a forensic examiner?
VICKIE ROBERTS: A forensic examiner is a trained person to examine digital evidence including cell phones, computers, cameras and different operating systems.
SHAWN GRAHAM: Back in September of 2014, did Agent Bobe contact you and ask you to begin to look on a phone?
VICKIE ROBERTS: Yes, sir.
SHAWN GRAHAM: Looking at State's number 91, which is a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 taken from the Defendant's car, do you recognize that as being the phone? Do you need to go into it?
VICKIE ROBERTS: Yes. I don't -- I don't see -- I gave it to her and she sealed it. So I couldn't tell, other than the name of the phone.
SHAWN GRAHAM: Okay. So Agent Bobe opened something and handed you a phone?
VICKIE ROBERTS: Yes, sir.
SHAWN GRAHAM: And you kept that phone and you gave that phone back to Agent Bobe?
VICKIE ROBERTS: Yes, sir.
SHAWN GRAHAM: Okay. What Agent Bobe did with it and what package it was in, you don't know?
VICKIE ROBERTS: That's correct.
SHAWN GRAHAM: Okay. The same phone that she gave you is the one that you gave her back?
VICKIE ROBERTS: Yes, sir.
SHAWN GRAHAM: The purpose of you taking the phone is to begin to do a forensic examination --
VICKIE ROBERTS: Yes, sir.
SHAWN GRAHAM: -- Is that correct? During the course of your examination, were you asked to stop the examination and to allow South Carolina officials --
VICKIE ROBERTS: Yes, sir.
SHAWN GRAHAM: -- to finish the examination?
VICKIE ROBERTS: Yes, sir.
SHAWN GRAHAM: As far as the examination you did, did you change anything that was on the phone or add to it or subtract from it?
VICKIE ROBERTS: No, sir.
SHAWN GRAHAM: So the contents of the phone were the same after -- when you turned it back to Cynthia as it was when you got it from Cynthia?
VICKIE ROBERTS: Yes, sir.
SHAWN GRAHAM: Thank you, ma'am. Please, answer any questions the Defense has.
